Whenever the respective mining pool finds a new block, each miner gets a share of the rewards proportional to the hashpower they have contributed. This way, a smaller miner can team up with a lot of other hashpower, making it more probable that they will get a steady flow of block rewards from their mining activities. If a miner can only provide limited computing power, it is best to connect these mining machines to so-called mining pools. Just like the Bitcoin mining industry, Dogecoin mining today is dominated by mining pools. At least a powerful graphic card unit (GPU), or better, a so-called application-specific integrated (ASIC) mining machine, is necessary to provide relevant hashpower to the network. Today, Dogecoin cannot be mined efficiently with a computer processing unit (CPU) anymore. Due to Dogecoin’s surge in popularity, ever more hashpower is being provided to the network, making mining increasingly more difficult. In the early days of Dogecoin, it was very well possible to mine the cryptocurrency using home CPU and GPU computer hardware. Because Dogecoin represents an open, permissionless system like Bitcoin, anyone with access to computer-processing power can participate in mining. Mining Dogecoin requires the provision of processing power, also known as hashpower, to the Dogecoin network. As a result, miners today can mine both Dogecoin and Litecoin simultaneously. Merge mining allows miners to contribute computing power to two chains at once and thereby compete for both rewards, without having to split the provided hashrate among the two networks. To protect the network from 51% percent attacks, the developers decided to enable ‘ merge mining ,’ which allowed the Dogecoin network to receive hashrate from other proof-of-work blockchains running on the same scrypt-algorithm. Dogecoin thereby became a disinflationary currency with a slowly declining inflation rate (3.6% in 2024, 3% in 2030, 1.5% in 2065, …).Īs a result of removing Dogecoin’s hard cap supply, its price began to decrease and the network’s hashrate declined significantly throughout 2014. However, in the beginning of 2014, three months before the last block reward would have been paid out, the developers decided to give Dogecoin a constant tail emission by keeping the block reward at a flat 10,000 coins per block. According to the mining schedule, this would have been the case approximately one year and 160 days after launch. After that, the block reward would be at a fixed rate of 10,000 coins until the 100-billion coin cap was reached. When created, Dogecoin originally had a fixed coin cap of 100 billion coins and the block reward was set to halve every 100,000 blocks until block 600,000 was mined. Unlike its big brothers Bitcoin and Litecoin, Dogecoin doesn’t have a fixed upper coin limit and is, therefore, an inflationary currency. This mechanism handsomely rewards the miners for providing computational power to the Dogecoin network and thereby securing the network for the decentralized handling of peer-to-peer transactions. Whichever miner successfully solves this puzzle first and thereby outcompetes his contenders, gets to add a new block to the blockchain and is rewarded with Dogecoin in what is called a block reward. The energy used to mine Dogecoin is going to dedicated computer machines, powering processors in a global competition to solve mathematical puzzles. The term mining is an analogy that is borrowed from the process of extracting precious metals from the ground as they also need to be mined at the cost of labor and energy.Ĭosts and energy are incurred for Dogecoin miners as well, but they are not the result of digging the ground in search of precious metals. These vital network participants are the ones that grow the Dogecoin blockchain and are in return rewarded with DOGE. The receivers of the newly issued Dogecoins are the so-called miners. Instead of a pre-mine, where the entire stack of Dogecoin would have been created in one fell swoop before the network’s launch, Dogecoin is issued and released by the protocol in a pre-programmed way - similar to Bitcoin. Thus, the distribution of coins has been designed in a decentralized manner. As a result, there is no central entity to distribute the cryptocurrency out into the world. Just like Bitcoin, Dogecoin is a decentralized cryptocurrency whose digital ledger is maintained by a decentralized network of nodes instead of one single party. However, its mining process works similarly to Bitcoin mining. Dogecoin is a distant Bitcoin fork with several major differences in its source code.

Heading off road can be liberating Dave Noakesīikepacking’s minimalist equipment and self-sufficiency feel particularly liberating. That said, some farmers are open to the idea of you pitching up for one night if you ask nicely. When it comes to camping out, we don’t have it quite as easy, as it’s illegal to camp in the wild without the landowner’s permission (the exceptions being Dartmoor in Devon and all of Scotland). The Americans may have thousands of kilometres of gravel trails and forest tracks, but we’re pretty well served here in the UK too, with an extensive network of bridleways and permissive routes. Having a shelter to hand gave me great flexibility, allowing me to savour the journey and unhurriedly explore market towns when I reached them, though I could equally well have chosen to largely avoid civilization. Carrying a stove in my bag, I didn’t need to wait until I reached a town to have a coffee break so when I saw a nice view I pitched up, brewed up and enjoyed a cuppa al fresco. With food, drink and clothing on board, I was only constrained by daylight and fatigue. My setup took it all in its stride, my legs less so - sometimes going was slow as I lost a lot of momentum bouncing on the uneven surface. When planning an adventure it pays to be prepared, but an open mind is a must when you are at the whim of the weatherĪfter a brief stint on a busy main road I turned onto a bridleway, enjoying forest tracks and trails with the surface switching between hard-packed dirt, grass, a lot of very sharp, flinty gravel and some chalk. But you don’t have to go off into the depths of the wilderness the back lanes, woods and moorlands are all within reach for most of us in the UK. If you’re looking to explore an entire country or region rather than a small patch of wilderness or lone mountain range, bikepacking allows you to cover distances ranging from 10 to 100 miles in a day. One of the greatest things about this form of travel as opposed to, say, hiking, is the distances you can cover on a bike, travelling further off the beaten track than you can on foot in a shorter amount of time. In our busy lives, a whole day on the bike, from dusk until dawn feels like luxury. Favourite event you've been part of? The wadcutter magazine features parallel feed lipds that open comparatively abruptly to full width, providing release of the cartridge earlier in the feed cycle than the traditional GI magazines.Ī third variant is a hybrid of the first two, featuring tapered feed lips at the back of the magazine but also incorporating the early flare-out and release of the wadcutter syle magazines. A new design was developed, which is cleverly referred to as “wadcutter” feed lips. However, wadcutter bullets don’t feed well from the GI-standard magazines with tapered feed lips. One of the ammunition types favored in bullseye competition is the wadcutter bullet design, which has a flat “point.” Wadcutter bullets cut nice, clean holes in the target, making scoring easier and more accurate. Those had tapered feed lips, which release the round relatively late in the feed cycle. The original military and commercial magazines were designed to feed 230-grain ball ammunition (like the Colt seven round magazines). And for a long time, you could get them basically one way blued, and with a seven round capacity.Īs time passed and ammunition choices expanded, manufacturers began developing magazines with different feed lip profiles. But first, a little information about 1911 magazines in general is in order.ġ911 magazines have been around, well, since about 1911, which is a long time. received a pair of Check Mate 1911 magazines for our evaluation and review, which we'll get to presently. Walton, also of The Moving Picture News summed up the film and stated, 'Good teaching as to woman's 'class', but as to details sadly lax.' The New York Dramatic Mirror panned the film beginning with, 'Nothing more improbable or inconsistent has been seen on the screen in some time.' The reviewer concluded the review of the improbable plot as to having been 'dreamed up by a ten-year-old girl.A Review of Check-Mate Industries Extended Eight-Round 1911 Magazines Jeanval of The Moving Picture News found the baron to be boorish by shading a lady's hand with a glove on and wondered at how Thanhouser was able to film the prison scenes. While the reviewer stated that no magistrate would have sent the man to jail for assault with a blunt knife, it was the jail substitution via a changing of clothes which proved to be impossible. The Morning Telegraph, like others, found the story to be foolish and completely improbable on many accounts. The film was met with a wide variety of reviews by critics with the majority proving to be negative. The single reel drama, approximately 1,000 feet long, was released on February 17, 1911. The reel demonstrates how easily evidence of this sort may be made to entangle and ensnare a totally innocent man.' Release and reception Checkmate 1911 8 Round Mag The serious nature of the film was highlighted with the advertising of the film by Thanhouser which states, ' Checkmate carries a message and a lesson to those who value the 'circumstantial evidence' process by which so many convictions are obtained in our criminal courts. Checkmate wove a more tangled web of circumstantial evidence and intrigue and the resolution comes not from an astute female detective, but by the heiress's novel substitution of a doppelgänger to the prison so that the original can get the needed confession. Love and Law was a film which garnered some criticism for an improbable plot. The first such Thanhouser film to tackle the subject was Love and Law released in December 1910. Bowers notes that such convictions were a known social issue, but not a pressing one in 1911. Lonergan would produce several scenarios featuring the problems with circumstantial evidence being used to obtain convictions. David Bowers notes that the plot dealing with circumstantial evidence focused on one of Lloyd Lonergan's social issues. The only known credit for the film is that it starred William Garwood. Defeating enemies if preferable but if not, just avoid them! Well, that was a fast review for a fast game.Sonic, Tails and Knuckles need your help to battle the evil Dr. *shivers uneasily* but seriously, something like this NEEDS to be officially done by SEGA in the next few years. I know you're coming back from Sonic's.Dark Age. SEGA, start taking notes, because this game rocks. All in all, this is a fantastic game improved to be an ultra-fantastic game. This game is still very hard to beat, just like it's original counterpart. You'd then fall down through the wall, which is annoying, albeit hilarious. It makes the game slightly easier in that regard, and there are also a few glitches I noticed with Knuckles' wall-climbing where you'd climb up a wall and lift yourself up a ledge in the middle of the wall. However, it's even more fun to act on those decisions! Difficulty: This game is getting slightly demoted in the difficulty field due to having more characters. "Should I do this Zone as Sonic? What about Knuckles? Or maybe I'll just carry Sonic and Knuckles OVER the Zone as Tails!" Ask yourself that before you play a zone, it's very fun to weigh your options. Remember, you don't play the classic Sonic games for the story! :P Depth: This game, with the addition of the Heroes concept, offers you more options than the original did gameplay-wise. Using the freaking HOMING ATTACK with a blue shield as Sonic? YES. Playing as Tails and lifting both Sonic and Knuckles at the same time? YES. I'm giving it a 9 cos' the amount of updates this game made to the original Sonic 2 are just wonderful! Playing as Knuckles in Sonic 2? YES. (They also added more sound effects for Knuckles and the shields!) Addictiveness: The original Sonic 2 would be getting an 8 for this. Sound: I also gave this an eight, simple because Sonic 2's music is incredibly catchy and cool. Since these weren't even in Sonic 2 to begin with, I gave it an 8 for adding graphically new graphical graphics that are graphically appealing. But let's get to the real review, shall we? Graphics: I originally thought about giving this a 7, but then I noticed the new sprites for the Sonic 3 shields. He also gets to use the Homing Attack when he gets the standard Blue Shield, which is AWESOME. Each character has their abilities from their classic Sega Genesis days, but Sonic got a few updates to make him play like he did in Sonic 3. It pretty much combines Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic Heroes by adding a new mechanic to the game, which is the ability to actively switch between Sonic Tails and Knuckles, just like in Sonic Heroes. The members were either Speed Type, Flying Type, or Power Type (it's been a while since I played Sonic Heroes so don't complain if I got that wrong.) Sonic 2 Heroes is a ROM hack of, you guessed it, Sonic 2 for the Sega Genesis. This game let you switch between the members of a 3-man (or animal?) team that had different abilities. A game for the PS2 and Gamecube was made called Sonic Heroes. So after this game rolled around, time goes by, and a lot of it too. The whole deal with Sonic is that you're insanely fast. A very good hack at that, and let's find out why! Sypnosis: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a game we all know and love that involves platforming, rings, and most importantly, SPEED. Sonic 2 Heroes Review by: UncleBalrog - 9.5/10 Sonic 2, but with more heroes! It's UncleBalrog bringing you another review for a game! Yeah, it's another Sonic game, but this time it's a hack of a Sonic game. In fact, throughout the series, a notable number of the bad endings involve them being overpowered and killed by an armed foe. They go through every game unarmed should the situation ever devolve into a physical confrontation, they've already lost.
It does get slightly more interesting once tools such as the grappling Grabcaster are introduced, and the immersion of it all as the wind swirls around your ears and the excellent music swells as you reach the next peak is undeniable. Climbing isn’t overly challenging, but honestly reaching for handhold after handhold gets quite dull after you’ve scaled your third or fourth outcrop. Now, I wasn’t naive enough to think that a game called “Call of the Mountain” wouldn’t involve some climbing, but I was taken somewhat off guard when I found that it really is the majority of what you’ll be doing here, especially in the early hours. Almost so much climbing that you may find yourself wanting to climb the walls of your house as well. Climbing rock faces by lodging dual pickaxes into them. There are quite a few opportunities for potential plummets as well, thanks to the sheer amount of climbing you’re asked to do. I’m not too terrible with real heights, but here I did start to feel a little queasy when looking down at some of the ludicrous distances I could fall from. Now’s the time to say that if you suffer from any level of vertigo, this may not be the game for you. Everyone’s mileage on this will obviously vary based on your VR tolerances, so I’d recommend trying out both to see which suits you best. I did, however, find myself switching to the analog sticks whenever entering combat, as the dodge mechanics associated with this moveset (a flick of the right stick) made for a much easier time. At first, the gesture system didn’t strike me as overly intuitive, but once I got to grips with it I preferred it simply because it made me feel far less nauseous when playing for long stretches (by which I mean about 30 minutes). After trying both I opted for the former for most of my playthrough, despite both coming with their pros and cons. There are two movement options to choose from: a “gesture”-based system that moves you around when holding two buttons and imitating a walking motion with your arms, and a more traditional analog stick-based system. This narrow approach naturally works well in VR, even if some of the inherent exploration that Horizon normally offers is lost. An inquisitive mind is occasionally rewarded with fun side activities, such as stacking rock cairns or collectible archery targets to hit, but mostly you’ll be guided down a funneled path. What’s notable, however, is that this is very much a linear experience that stands in sharp contrast to Zero Dawn or Forbidden West’s vast open worlds. Rocky landscapes to explore, hostile machines to take down, puzzles to solve – it's all here. It’s a real showcase for the PS VR2 right off the bat, with huge spectacle blending with small detail – right down to the delicate ripples your fingers make in the water and the rude splashes made by the feet of giant machines.īlockbuster opening aside, over the course of its roughly six-hour campaign Call of the Mountain takes the essence of Horizon’s gameplay and boils it down into a much more manageable set of tools that works in VR. The first time you see the scale of some of these creatures really is a sight to behold, not only from the shift to true first-person perspective emphasizing their true size, but with their presence felt further thanks to the haptic feedback felt both in each controller and the headset itself: as you quite literally feel the ground shake with every step as these massive machines pass by. Peppermint oil or extract adds big, refreshing flavor to these brownies. It’s a huge time saver, but you can certainly crush candy canes or peppermint candies yourself if you prefer. I love using peppermint crunch, which is finely crushed peppermint that can be used just like sprinkles. I used dark chocolate chips for big chocolate flavor, but they may be substituted with whatever you have on hand or omitted altogether. If you use salted butter, omit the 1/2 teaspoon salt in the recipe. I used unsalted butter so that I could control the sodium. I’ve updated the photos and text to include more information and step by step photos, and I’ve simplified the recipe. Use butterscotch candies instead of the peppermint candies, and switch the peppermint extract for butter rum flavor extract.**This recipe was originally published in December 2015. The marshmallows also add a gentle vanilla flavor, and sometimes during the year, you can find peppermint mini marshmallows to use!Ĭrunchy butterscotch brownies. As the brownies bake, they’ll get even more gooey. Before baking, stir in 2 cups of miniature marshmallows. Sprinkle crushed peppermint candies on top for decoration. When the brownies are cool, frost with a peppermint buttercream made with ¼ cup of butter, ½ teaspoon of peppermint extract, 1 cup of confectioners’ sugar, and enough milk to blend it all together. Leave off the crushed peppermint candies while baking. Add even more peppermint sweetness to your brownies. Pure cocoa powder is gluten free, but you’ll want to make sure the kind you have doesn’t have any added fillers. The only other item to check is the cocoa powder. These brownies can be made gluten-free by using a flour like oat flour or coconut flour. It’s a wonderful recipe to make with the kids or when you want a delicious treat but don’t have a ton of time. Toss the ingredients together, bake, and they’re done. Like most brownie recipes, they are so easy to make. This peppermint brownie recipe contains the perfect balance between chocolate and peppermint. But while there’s not too much of a good thing with chocolate, peppermint can be overwhelming.
